Christmas Concert/Weihanchtskonzert

Ok, this entry is pretty late as well, but Christmas preparations have turned out to be quite stressful, with job, college, the ice-storm, last-minute gifts, Richard standing in line for two hours yesterday at the post office to get the packages into the mail, even though they won't arrive in time anyways, etc.

The 1st ID Christmas Concert in McCain Auditorium was a welcome time-out in this time, which is actually meant to be quiet and peaceful (what has happened??) It was a very good show; even though I've seen the program twice before, it was very captivating once again. The band did an awesome job, and Andrew's vocal parts were highlights as usual. The only real downside, besides Renatta's made-up lyrics (little update to the story: Jesus was born in a MANSION!), was this absolutely horrible singer, some officer's wife. I actually like the Christmas tune "O Holy Night", but she completely ruined it for me that night. Honestly, I could sing it better with laundary clips in my nipples, it was so bad... When I went online today to get a little bit Christmas feeling while doing homework, I found this wonderful version by Josh Groban (http://youtube.com/watch?v=9Vr2MB426j0), THIS is how this song is supposed to sound, Mrs. Officer's Wife!!

Ok, dieser Eintrag ist wieder ziemlich spaet, aber die Weihnachtsvorbereitungen haben sich doch als ziemlich stressig herausgestellt, zwischen Arbeit, Uni, dem Eissturm, Last-Minute Geschenke, den zwei Stunden, die Richard gestern in der Post angestanden hat um die Paeckchen abzuschicken, die niemals bis Weihnachten ankommen, etc.

Das Weihanchtskonzert der 1st ID Band im McCain Auditorium war eine willkommene Abwechslung in dieser Zeit, die eigentlich ruhig und besinnlich sein sollte (was ist passiert??). Es war ein sehr schoenes Konzert; obwohl ich das ganze schon zwei mal gesehen habe war es wieder einmal fesselnd. Die Band war einfach super, und Andrew's Gesangseinlagen waren wieder einmal Highlights. Der einzige wirkliche Tiefpunkt, neben Renatta's improvisierten Liedtexten (Gute Nachricht, Jesus wurde in einem HERRENHAUS geboren!!), war diese absolute grottenschlechte Saengerin, irgend so eine Offiziers-Ehefrau. Ich mag eigentlich das Lied "O Holy Night", aber sie hat es mir fuer diesen Abend total versaut. Unuebertrieben, ich koennte das besser singen, mit Waescheklammern in gewissen Koerperteilen, es war wirklich so miess.. Als ich heute im Internet ein bisschen nach begleitender Weihanchtsstimmung waehrend den Hausaufgaben gesucht habe, fand ich diese echt tolle Version von Josh Groban (http://youtube.com/watch?v=9Vr2MB426j0), SO sollte das klingen, Mrs. Offiziers-Frau!

Ice Storm in KS/Eissturm in KS

How many of you might know, we had a major ice storm last week. Many branches broke off trees, power lines were torn down by falling trees, etc. Most of Riley county and Manhattan was without power, we were among the lucky few with an outage of only about 7 hours. Others were without power for days, some still are, and they might spend Christmas without electricity. We had friends with their three kids over at our apartment after they were without any heat for more than 2 days. The kids still had bluish-red feet when they went to bed. It was quite cramped in our apartment, but we were so happy that we could help and our friends didn't have to freeze any more.

With that said, I might appear like being completely insensitive, but I have to say that this ice storm even had a beautiful side. Everything outside looked like being cast in glass; despite some areas looking terrible with torn-down branches, trees, and power lines, I had to take some pictures of the wonderful iced landscape... Enjoy!

Wie viele von euch vielleicht wissen, wir hatten einen gewaltigen Eissturm letzte Woche. Viele Aeste sind abgebrochen, Strommasten wurden von fallenden Baeumen mit umgerissen, usw. Der Grossteil von Riley County und Manhattan war ohne Strom, wir waren unter den paar Gluecklichen und waren nur ca. 7 Stunden ohne Strom; andere hatten tagelang keine Elektrizitaet, manche haben immer noch keine und werden wohl auch Weihnachten ohne Strom verbringen muessen. Wir haben Freunde mit ihren 3 Kindern bei uns aufgenommen, die seit 2 Tagen ohne Strom waren. Die Kinder hatten Abends zur Bettgehzeit noch blaeulich-rote Fuesse. Es war zwar ziemlich eng in unserer Wohnung, aber wir waren nur froh, dass wir helfen konnten und unsere Freunde nicht mehr frieren mussten.

Nachdem das jetzt gesagt ist komme ich vielleicht komplett unsensibel rueber, aber ich muss sagen dass dieser Eissturm auch eine wunderschoene Seite hatte. Alles draussen sah aus als ob es in Glas gegossen war; obwohl einige Gegenden echt schlimm aussahen mit abgerissenen Aesten und Stromkabeln, ich musste einfach ein paar Bilder von dieser unglaublich schoenen Eislandschaft machen.. Today's Doctor's Appointment

Another month has passed like nothing, and we had another doctor's appointment today.. Luckily, Richard made it this time, which is always better than doing it alone, I like to see him during the day..

All my test results from last time were alright, I don't have diabetes and the thyroid is ok as well.. One of the three hormones is a little low, but still within the normal limits. I gained another good 2 lbs, weigh in at 149.8 at 31 weeks now, gained a total of good 19 lbs so far.. I think I made it well over Thanksgiving, without gaining loads extra.. Hope Christmas will treat me this well, too... My blood pressure was fine as well, fundus height is at 30cm now, encouraging my hopes that Mini will be late and arrive during college break, keep your fingers crossed..

Mini is doing great as well.. Our little one put on a good show today when the doc checked the heart rate.. Within only a few seconds the heart rate dropped from 161 to 144 bpm, but the doc said that this is normal, as if someone suddenly went into a sprint and then calmed down again.. Is someone preparing for a biiiig career there?? We also got a quick tour through the labor and delivery area, since I won't have time to attend any of these preparation courses. College keeps me just too busy, but I'll do well without, I read a lot and bug my colleagues with questions. The rooms look nice, they even have a comfy chair which transforms into a bed for the coach.. I hope Richard won't need it.. Unfortunately they do not have a birthing tub, even though one of the midwives is currently trying to get the hospital to buy one.. But I'll make it without, no problem..

Our next appointment is on January 3, exactly a month before due date.. And this time will pass way too fast.. I actually like being pregnant, I just feel wonderful, even though I'm clumsy sometimes, but that's just the normal me.. Today I tripped over Richard's shoes and Army backpack and fell flat on my face.. That is so much me! But of course we can't wait to have Mini here either, even though it means that sleeping in on weekends is a thing of the past for a few years..

Wieder einmal ist ein Monat wie nichts vergangen, und deswegen war heute wieder mal ein Arzttermin angesagt. Zum Glueck hat es Richard geschafft mich zu begleiten, ist einfach schoener so, dann hab ich eine Gelegenheit ihn unterm Tag zu sehen..

Alle Ergebnisse heute waren zufriedenstellend, meine Blutzucker- und Schilddruesenwerte sind soweit ok, eines der drei Hormone ist ein bisschen niedrig, aber noch im gruenen Bereich, kein Anlass zur Beunruhigung. Ich habe gut 2 Pfund seit dem letzten Termin im November zugenommen, wiege jetzt offiziell 149.8 Pfund (68.1 kg). Somit habe ich es offiziel gut ueber Thanksgiving geschafft, mal sehen wie es Weihnachten so laeuft.. Blutdruck war in Ordnung, Fundushoehe war 30 cm, also immer noch einen Zentimeter hinterher, was meine Hoffnungen schuert dass Mini doch in der Unipause kommen koennte..

Mini geht es auch super.. Unser Kleines hat heute mal eine richtige Show geliefert.. Der Herzschlag ist innerhalb von wenigen Sekunden von 161 auf 144 Schlaege pro Minute gesunken, aber der Arzt hat gesagt dass das normal ist, als ob jemand einen schnellen Spurt hinlegt udnd dann wieder runter kommt.. Bereitet sich da jemand auf eine Sportkarriere vor?? Unser Arzt hat uns auch die Geburtsstation gezeigt, was ziemlich interessant war.. Die Geburtszimmer sind ziemlich gemuetlich, der Sessel laesst sich sogar zu einem Bett fuer den Partner ausziehen, hoffentlich braucht Richard das nicht.. Es gibt ein privates Badezimmer, aber leider keine Geburtswanne, auch wenn sich eine Hebamme gerade fuer die Anschaffung einer Wanne einsetzt..

Unser naechster Termin ist am 3. Januar, genau einen Monat vor Geburtstermin... Und die Zeit wird auch wieder wie nichts vergehen. Ich bin echt gerne schwanger, das ganze fuehlt sich gut an, auch wenn ich manchmal echt tolpatschig bin, aber das bin einfach ich.. Heute bin ich ueber Richards Schuhe und Army Rucksack gefallen und es hatt mich flach hingelegt.. Das ist so typisch fuer mich.. Aber natuerlich koennen wir es auch nicht abwarten bis Mini endlich da ist, auch wenn das bedeutet dass Ausschlafen an Wochenenden erst mal ein Ding der Vergangenheit ist, zumindest fuer ein paar Jahre..
